Meet Ron Bittaker!!  We here at Dolphin Landings came to first meet Ron when he came to St Pete Beach as a police officer in 1984.  Capt Dan was one of the first people that he and his wife Sandy came to meet and has been a treasured friendship since.  During Ron’s tenure as an officer, his duties included street officer, marine officer, detective and finally as the K-9 officer for the City of St Pete Beach thru to his retirement of 25 years.
Just prior to his retirement, Ron was able to partner up and build a dream; “Paws Inn Paradise Pet Resort”.  They are located at 10700  66th st N  in Pinellas Park, Fl
He is currently in year 10 and is having a ball.  Animal care is what they do.  His experiences throughout his career in law enforcement have been invaluable.  Specialties include training of all breeds and all types of behavioral problems.   They are open 7 days a week, Mon thru Saturday 7 am to 7 pm and Sundays 9am to 4 pm.  The accommodations for your pets range from economy rooms to presidential and poolview rooms. Webcams are a popular feature. They also offer, daycare and full service grooming.  Pick up and drop off services are also available services.
In addition Ron and staff are very active in the rescue community.  At the time of this writing, they were caring for 5  one week old kittens, which were found at an abandoned house. They will all be bottle fed, vaccinated, microchipped and found homes.  Just prior to that, Bay Pines Veterans hospital asked us to get involved with a veteran who lived on his boat behind the hospital who needed treatment, but would not because he lived on his boat with his dog, arrow.  We agreed.  Arrow tried to eat Ron when he went out via dinghy, so they decided to leave arrow on the boat, and go out to feed her there, since that was her only known home, and she was only supposed to be there for 2 or 3 days.  After going out to feed arrow everyday for 11 days, a storm came, broke the anchor free, and sunk the boat.  The next morning, Ron found arrow , still on the sunk boat, and still trying to protect her home, so Ron decided she was leaving the boat which was no longer safe to occupy. The boat was pumped out, re-floated and re-anchored.  The next morning, Arrow was medicated, which allowed Ron to remove arrow safely and go to Paws Inn Paradise.  She did great!!!!   Arrows dad did not get better.  Ron was actually listed as his only family.  Arrows dad had no one.  Ron was his only visitor while dad was in the hospital.  When dad was moved to the hospice floor, they allowed Ron to bring arrow for a visit.  That was on a Wednesday.  Arrow’s dad died on Thursday.   Ron and staff was able to find an awesome family who was following the story on the Paws Inn Paradise facebook page to adopt Arrow.
For the love of an opportunity to give back to the community, and to help the animals, this is just one example of what goes on at Paws Inn Paradise and our Treasured Jewel, Ron Bittaker.
